Chiropractic

Chiropractic medicine is a profession based on the relationship between the structure of the spine and the function of the nervous system. If abnormal joint motion exists, this often creates nervous system dysfunction, muscle spasms/guarding, and suboptimal performance. Chiropractic adjustments have tremendous potential to help patients and can make a rapid, positive response.

Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique (ART) is considered the gold standard for soft tissue treatment. It combines movement and massage to break down scar tissue, generate increases in functional muscle length, and release fascial adhesions. ART treatments are effective for various conditions that affect the muscles, ligaments, nerves, and fascia. These conditions include headaches, back pain, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, and various knee issues.

During an ART treatment, a patient can expect to be guided through a specific movement pattern while the doctor uses manual pressure to generate tension in a specific tissue structure.

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology tape is very different from a true athletic tape. It has a built in elasticity that, when applied correctly, helps to pull the skin away from the underlying soft tissue. This increases blood flow and lymphatic drainage in the area, resulting in improved form and function, and warding off fatigue. Because it addresses the continual force and demand applied by any sport or repetitive activity, a wide variety of candidates can benefit from kinesiology tape.

Graston Technique

The technique utilizes stainless steel instruments designed specifically to detect and effectively treat areas with soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

Graston Technique is effective because it provides controlled microtrauma to the affected soft tissue structures. The technique stimulates a local inflammatory response, which leads to remodeling and repair of affected soft tissues. The instruments allow doctors to identify and treat specific areas.

Functional Rehabilitation

Functional rehabilitation combines various principles to return an injured or limited athlete to a more optimal performance level. It includes strength, flexibility, proprioceptive, and movement pattern interventions in order to maximize efficiency and explore their highest forms of athletic expression. The overall goal of rehabilitation and corrective exercise is to restore multi-planar function and improve tissue tolerance to the demands of their sport, activity, and life.

Functional rehabilitation differs from therapies that address the patient’s symptoms—such as heat, ice, and medication—the primary goal being to increase tolerance and capacity for the stresses of their sport. The athlete should begin rehabilitation as soon as the injury allows, good rehabilitation should be injury- and sport-focused, prioritizing effective stimulus and eliminating excess noise or volume.

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal decompression has healed and changed the lives of many patients who had given up on finding an effective and non-invasive treatment. During this treatment, motorized traction is used to lengthen tissues around the spine. By introducing therapeutic traction forces to the spine and axial skeleton, in many cases we can make significant changes to symptomatic and objective measures related to disc pain, radiculopathy, ligamentous and muscular pathologies.

Spinal decompression is a very effective treatment for back pain related to sciatica, disc herniations, radiculopathies, arthritic pain, and many other forms of acute and chronic back pain. During treatment, your doctor will work with you to customize treatment to your specific needs.

PULSED ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD THERAPY

PEMF is a non-invasive and drug-free therapy that compliments other therapies and, together with a combination of regular exercise and a healthy diet, can aid acceleration of the healing process. However, individuals are advised to consult their physicians before changing any medication.

Since the cellular reaction takes place in every body, magnetic fields are not condition specific. As a result, PEMF therapy can be used to assist with the majority of conditions. In fact, clinical studies have demonstrated that PEMFs are capable of:

  • Increasing circulation
  • Decreasing inflammation
  • Accelerating bone healing
  • Enhancing muscle function
  • Reducing the effects of stress
  • Improving blood oxygenation, and much more

MASSAGE THERAPY

In addition to significantly enhancing resting circulation, therapeutic massage also clears metabolic waste in tissues, reduces physical restrictions, and increases contractile length in muscles.
To achieve the best possible results, our massage therapists blend modalities such as specific deep trigger point work, myofascial release, deep tissue massage, stretching, gua sha, and cupping.

BOOK AN APPT

Dry Needling

During a dry needling treatment, one or more thin, monofilament needles are inserted into a muscle trigger point. A trigger point is a local band of tight, irritable and dysfunctional muscle tissue. This often emerges because of injury, overuse or poor movement patterns. Trigger points can disrupt your muscle function, restrict your range of motion or cause pain and tenderness.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM)

FSM Therapy, or Frequency-Specific Microcurrent Therapy, uses very low electrical currents with specific frequencies to help with pain, inflammation, scar tissue, and muscle issues, boosting cellular energy (ATP) and accelerating healing, often alongside traditional care for conditions like chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and nerve pain. Practitioners apply precise currents via pads or towels, often painlessly, to encourage tissue softening, improve muscle tone, and promote faster recovery.

Class 4 Deep Tissue Laser Therapy

We utilize the LightForce Class 4 Laser Therapy which is clinically proven as an effective treatment for pain and inflammation. Able to penetrate to deep tissue structures, it has the ability to treat a wide variety of both acute and chronic conditions. The non-invasive nature of Deep Tissue Laser Therapy provides a solution for those who are looking for alternatives to prescription drugs and surgery. Patients feel a soothing warmth as laser energy gently penetrates tissue and boosts your body’s own regeneration powers to relieve your pain. Treatments are painless and fast (5 to 10 min).
Results can be immediate but the most observed results are after 3 to 5 treatment sessions. The body continues to benefit from the effects of the therapy for 18-24 hours after treatment. During this time, modulated cellular activity leads to decreased pain and inflammation.

Dr. Dan Rhodes

Dr. Dan Rhodes

Dr. Dan Rhodes graduated from Palmer West Chiropractic in 1998. And spent his first year of practice working with Dr. Nick Athens who was the team chiropractor for the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. While working with Dr. Athens and having the opportunity to work with many professional athletes Dr. Dan continued his education by obtaining his Care of the Elite Professional Athlete certificate (CEPA) which focuses on the treatment of sports injuries through the use of many soft tissue and physical therapy techniques used in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments of both spinal and extremities.

After which time Dr. Dan practiced for 17 years in Half Moon Bay CA. in a solo practice where he could concentrate on whole body care of each patient without having to rush appointments. Dr. Dan has become Graston Certified and incorporates Graston treatment into helping people recover quicker from a wide variety of injuries. Since moving to Bend in 2016 Dr. Dan has continued to treat patients as an associate in a small practice where longer appointments time maintained a priority to ensure high quality care.
Dan’s philosophy on health is that although the human body has an amazing ability to heal itself, we often need to give it a push in the right direction to speed up the process. Many injuries are a combination of both skeletal and soft tissue issues and to treat them you need to incorporate a total body approach including a lot of soft tissue treatments using techniques such as myofascial release, Graston technique, and Active Release Techniques as well as strength and stabilization rehabilitation.
Outside the office, Dr. Dan can often be found exploring the beautiful central Oregon outdoors with his daughters Stella and Adelaine. Also he’s an avid runner for 30+ years and frequently competes in ultra/trail events as well as the occasional triathlon. He has applied his many years of running experience by volunteering to coach with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as a run coach for Team In Training. Since moving to Bend in 2016 Dr. Dan has continued coaching and mentoring running groups with FootZone.
